Muncy Historical Society will host its annual, juried exhibition of fine arts and contemporary crafts made in Pennsylvania. The ninth annual invitational Artists Exhibition and Sale will be held on Friday, November 6, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The show returns to the Pennsdale Civic Center Social Hall, 261 Village Road, Pennsdale, PA.
Friday night’s opening includes a reception with complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres, and music by members of the Williamsport Symphony Youth Orchestra—William Knauth, Mike Fisher, Juliet Jacques, and Rachel Boll. Friday night admission is $15 per person; Saturday admission is $10 per person.
There are a number of special features to this year’s show. Most artists will be available during both Friday and Saturday hours to meet and greet show attendees and many will be demonstrating their craftsmanship.
There will be two opportunities to win four tickets (two adults and two children) to the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra’s “Moments of Childhood” Disney in Concert performance on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Under the direction of Gerardo Edelstein, the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra will perform iconic Disney hits, accompanied by four leading vocalists, while video clips from Disney movies are projected on a giant screen. The Disney in Concert has been performed in London and in major cities across the United States. At the end of the show, two lucky winners will be drawn from all door prize entries.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a silent auction during all Friday hours and until 1 p.m. Saturday. In addition to works from the participating artists, there will be several other limited edition pieces included – several works by Jeanne Petrosky, a paper/fiber artist, and a Garo Yepremian canvas. Yepremian, best known for his kicking ability with the Miami Dolphins, spent much of retirement painting and raising funds for brain cancer research.
Selinda Kennedy has crafted a commemorative redware “swan” butter mold tile that will be available for purchase from the museum’s booth; it will also be a complimentary gift for buyers whose purchases total $1,000 or more.
The Society’s art show committee wants to ensure that show guests experience a well-rounded event that includes a wide range of artistic expression–diversity and excellent artistry remain paramount to the selection process. The show will feature some of the most talented artists in Pennsylvania whose works are exhibited and collected nationally; many share a close relationship with Lycoming County and the surrounding area. It includes a wide range of arts and craftsmanship, including photography, oil painting, jewelry, fashion, pottery, metal- and wood-working, quilting, mosaics, watercolor, sculpture, and home décor. The show will be a rich and varied collection of original work along with signed and numbered limited-edition reproductions.
This year’s artists include Carol Cillo, Michael Coppes, Linda Doucette, Dorothy Fisher, Steve Getz, Robert Hughes, Jeff Keiffer, Selinda Kennedy, S. Jean Ofiesh, Deb Parsons, Kris Robbins, Mark Robbins, Ken Sanford, David Seybold, Roger Shipley, Theresa Spitler, Deb Stabley, Kathy Sterngold, Bruce Storm, Nella Godbey Storm, Sue Swisher, Todd Tabb, Leslie Umstead, Wynn Yarrow and Judith Cole Youngman. Cillo, Hughes, Ofiesh, Sanford, Tabb and Umstead are new to the show this year.
“A panel of independent jurors evaluates new applicants and selects from our stable of previously juried talented artisans to choose those who will be asked to participate in the current year’s show. While each exhibition is different, a small number of our artists are core to the show. We are careful to offer a mix of traditional and contemporary styles and techniques from oil paintings to acrylics to mixed media. This year the show will feature artists from seven Pennsylvania counties and New York,” explains Linda Poulton, show coordinator.
The exhibition benefits the Muncy Historical Society’s educational initiatives and development efforts underway at its Heritage Park and Nature Trail in the Port Penn section of Muncy.
Arts funding support has been provided by Gary’s Furniture, 3 Factory Street, Picture Rocks; state funding through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, an agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts; the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau and friends of the Muncy Historical Society.
