The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra launches its first free “Pops in the Park” concert this year in collaboration with the Muncy Historical Society at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. The outdoor concert location is 232 Pepper Street, Muncy Creek Township, Muncy. Parking is available at Muncy High School and on Painter, Buffington and Lincoln streets. In case of rain, the concert will be held in Muncy High School auditorium.
Under the baton of Music Director/Conductor Gerardo Edelstein, the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra will perform a medley from the movie “Frozen,” the best songs from the musical “Phantom of the Opera,” an homage to the great Duke Ellington and the Tango “La Cumparsita.” The program also will feature the classics Bizet’s “Carmen Overture,” Strauss’ “Radetzky March” and Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The “Pops in the Park” free concert series is produced by the WSO and sponsored by First Community Foundation and Hudock Capital Group. For this Lower Lycoming County concert, additional financial support comes from The Muncy Bank & Trust Company and friends of the Muncy Historical Society.
Bring your family, pack your blankets, and head out for an evening of priceless music, absolutely free! As the sun sets, relax and enjoy the shared fun-filled, community oriented public experience of this live, outdoor concert. The Muncy Historical Society will provide free popcorn and a young person will win Disney’s “Frozen” DVD.
If you are unable to attend the Muncy event, the program will be repeated in Williamsport at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, in Brandon Park Band shell.
