This special exhibit, developed by the Muncy Historical Society, illustrates life on the home front during World War II. More than any other war before or since, the impact of the federal government was felt in numerous ways, both military and civilian, at the regional level and in local communities. This exhibit explores that engagement with four main themes: civic responsibility including rationing and controlling prices; defending the home front; wartime production, including research and development; and war work and employment opportunities. U.S. Savings Bond posters, correspondence, period music and artifacts are used as aids to describe home-front experiences in the years between Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the war’s end in 1945.
